In order to round Cap Finisterre - North-West of Spain - and thus leave the Bay of Biscay with the best weather window Liz Wardley crossed the start line by the Beg-Meil Semaphore, at the entrance of the Bay of Concarneau, on Saturday 12 December at 01.00pm (1200 UT). At the helm of the SolOceans One-design, Liz Wardley enjoyed an ENE Force 3 wind allowing her to quickly sail away from the Breton coast. Liz Wardley thus resumes her circumnavigation on the Around-the-world Reference Tour of the SolOceans - OceanoScientific® Campaign 2009-2010. The time spent for her pitstop in Port-La-Forêt will be deducted to her overall time, taking into account the real distance sailed on this first leg of the SolOceans between Caen (Normandy - France) and Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. "Jean-Baptiste Daramy's team at SailingOne was very efficient. We were also helped by MichDesj' (Michel Desjoyeaux)'s Team Mer Agitée. It was great and I thank them for their help. As we've decided to wait for the best weather window, in the meantime we have worked on the automatic pilot. We have installed the upgraded software developed by NKE for the Vendée Globe in collaboration with MichDesj'. I feel confident now and I am looking forward to helm the SolOceans One-design as if I was racing. I have to beat the two previous records we got with Charles Caudrelier Benac two years ago: beat our 26.7-knot instant speed record and sail more than 430 nautical miles in 24 hours, at an average speed of 18 knots. But I can definitely do it!"
On this Saturday 12 December, Liz Wardley headed back towards the South from the Bay of Concarneau after a pit stop at Port-La-Forêt led by Jean-Baptiste Daramy (SailingOne) with the logistic collaboration of Michel Desjoyeaux's team Mer Agitée.
